Michael Kidd-Gilchrist

Michael Kidd-Gilchrist (CHA) “MKG” jumpmab

(Sam Sharpe/USA TODAY Sports)

CHA 2 Forward: 6’7, 232 lbs; 6th year, Kentucky

NBA Role: lockdown perimeter defender & slasher • Star UnderDOG

If you look on the score sheet and see Michael Kidd-Gilchrist is the opposing small forward, there’s no going out the night before – you best get some rest: scoring is not gonna come easy; one of the few perimeter defenders who makes defense ‘payable,’ MKG locks down wings on a regular basis by moving well laterally, staying disciplined on shooters and drawing charges – highly versatile as a stopper; rebounds very well for a small forward – solid athleticism + high motor = success; not a natural offensive talent – MKG has made progress on his shot* but it’s still on the Bill Cartwright scale in terms of aesthetics; makes his mark as a tertiary/quaternary option in Coach Clifford’s offense – very nice slasher and finisher in transition, plays well off Kemba‘s penetration; needs improvement off the dribble, has the tools for more quick looks off curls/floaters near the rim; MKG’s forever working towards better shooting mechanics, not a distance shooter; at the end of the day, MKG is a top-notch glue guy w/ room to improve

*side note: some say MKG jumps on free throws, others say he’s on tiptoes – you be the judge!

Signature Shot: tough transition finish
