JaKarr Sampson is Will Barton* at 150 miles/hour; if Mike Malone can reel him in a bit, Sampson can develop into a defensive-minded swingman** but w/ raw power & playmaking abilities at 6’9; to boost his chances of breaking Coach Malone’s rotation, JaKarr needs to unlock his defensive skills and key in on star perimeter players; is it crazy to say JaKarr could be tough to stop offensively if managed correctly? – insanely athletic, mirrors Nic Batum (CHA)*** in terms of body type – but way more of a pure athlete, has 9% of Batum’s control; Sampson has high upside, however, because he’s a 1% athlete – could, in theory, get to places Nic can’t as a result (stop reaching? or on to something???); needs a coach, established PG (could grow w/ Emmanuel Mudiay or Jamal Murray if he earns some PT) or veteran wing to teach him ‘how-to’ slow the game down & use speed strategically; plays extremely hard but has a lil flair; not yet a shooter (24% from downtown – eek), funky form in need of a serious makeover; broke into the NBA as an undrafted rookie a couple years ago – can he bring that same fire to the backend of Malone’s rotation (backup, hybrid PG/SF?) in 2017?

*Barton has slowed down his game considerably

**DEN has a few young players w/ defensive potential: most notably, Mudiay, Harris & Jokic

***If Samspon’s at 150 mph, Batum’s cruisin’ at 75
