MILGuard/Forward: 6’7, 210 lbs; 2nd year, France | Career: 3.6 points/game, 1.5 rebounds/game, 36% FG

NBA Role: athletic swingman • MIL Depth Chart: Spot Minutes

Axel ‘Foley’ Toupane, outta France, is a 6’7 swingman who could become a better version of Thabo Sefolosha (ATL) some day; Axel’s a pretty interesting wing to watch: could get minutes as a reserve defender* to pay his dues; displayed incredible versatility in the D-League – can play 1-3, dish the ball and is an improving shooter; can shoot & slash, play tough defense if he accepts his destiny as a stopper; leaks out well on the break; plays cool, under control – little too nonchalant?; comfortable as a ball-handler and shot creator (can score via 1-2 dribble pull-ups, drive hard and find open teammates) – though committing too many turnovers is Toupane’s Achilles’ Heel**; Denver is 3 deep at every spot – Toupane could spend 2017 taking notes; childhood friends with former teammate Joffrey Lauvergne (CHI)

*like an Alonzo Gee^-type defender

  • ^yeah, that’s right – I compared a guy you’ve never heard to a guy you’ve maybe heard of

**avg. almost 3/night in the D-League (’15-’16) – “well, actually the pace is quicker…”
