Jamal Crawford: 3-Time Sixth Man of the Year

The NBA’s all-time leader in four-point plays just added another dubious distinction to his name: 3-time Sixth Man of the Year Award winner. Today, the league announced Jamal Crawford is 6MOY for the third time, setting the record.

A designated gunner who’s mastered the art of “rock up, shoot” ball, Crawford has perfected an instant offense role since moving to the bench full-time during 2009-2010 (when he first captured the award) with Atlanta.

Despite shooting just 40% this season and a mediocre-low ranking in win shares & real plus minus, Crawford led LA in bench scoring (14.2 ppg), was third on the team in minutes, and hit more than his share of buzzer-beaters in the clutch:

Crawford is one of the more unique players in recent history. If you think about it, it’s impressive to fathom how he’s earned the right to impose his style on “structured,” NBA sets night in and night out – no matter what you do, Crawford will consistently do his thing, a rare sight for someone coming off the bench.

At age 36, Crawford is still aiming for his first NBA championship. Whether he gets it or not, there’s no questioning his place near the top as the game’s best (ever) Sixth Man.
