Stats Leaders:

PTS:  Andre Drummond, Dirk Nowitzki, Chandler Parsons – 25 | REBS: Drummond – 17

ASTS: Deron Williams – 9

Like we anticipated, our Game of the Night ended up going down to the wire late in the fourth quarter.

But with one, improbable triple by Reggie Jackson, the Detroit Pistons sealed the deal and picked up an enormous W over Dallas. Up just 3 with under two minutes left, Jackson cashed a three off a scramble play, pushing the lead to six.

Detroit never looked back.

Jackson’s shot is symbolic in a sense – the Pistons are a legitimate playoff threat and converted when it mattered most. Seriously…how many times has Detroit been on the other end of a shot like that in recent years.

Andre Drummond, as expected, set the done by being an absolute monster, 25 points (20 in the first half) and 17 boards. His free throw shooting continues to leave much to be desired (but he was unstoppable on the glass and opened himself up for easy scores down low.

But tonight’s co Star UnderDOGs, Tobias Harris (19 points, 7 boards, 5 assists) & Marcus Morris (20 points, 7 boards) were the story of the game. Harris and Morris are quickly developing into one of the deadliest (and most versatile), 3-4 combos in the league.

Both of them are young, highly aggressive on offense (combined for 27 shot attempts), and have strong frames to play either inside or out. Look for a continuation of night’s like tonight as Stan Van Gundy gives the pair even more responsibility.

For Dallas, it was the same old story: very poor late game execution.

Down 3 with just under 1:30 to go, Chandler Parsons jacked up a ridiculous, long-range bomb that didn’t even draw iron. Later, down four (with the ball), Deron Williams committed a silly turnover and fouled Morris after Dirk’s initial 3-pointer went off the mark.

The result: a clear path foul and fourth consecutive loss for Dallas.

For Dallas, it was the latest in a disappointing string of games over the past couple of weeks. Tonight marked their fourth straight loss (season-high) and leaves them just a half game ahead of Houston for 8th place.

They need to regroup to avoid a free fall down the stretch.

Star UnderDOG of the Night: Tobias Harris (19 points, 7 boards, 5 assists) & Marcus Morris (20 points, 7 boards)

Top DOG of the Night: Stephen Curry (25 points, 17 rebounds)

DAL: The Mavs face another Central Division opponent when they host Paul George‘s Pacers on Saturday. Dallas needs to establish the interior and find some more consistent bench production (18 points tonight) to come away with a victory.

DET: With the win, Detroit moves into a virtual tie (with Chicago) for 8th place. They’re getting next to nothing from the reserves (played 8 guys total; 13 bench points) but with such a young starting five, fatigue shouldn’t be a factor as they push for the playoffs.
