Quick Stats

15.7 points/game, 10 rebounds/game, 1.3 assists

Stop me if you’ve heard this before: a tall, athletic, rangy underclassman has entered his name into the NBA Draft! This year, UNLV’s Christian Wood looks to defy conventional wisdom and make an impact from the moment he enters the league. We strongly liken Wood to former UNC big men, Brandan Wright & John Henson since he is a relentless glass attacker and has a crazy wingspan (7’2).

Wood, however, has the chance to eclipse both Wright and Henson because he is more of a threat to score facing up. Instead of a ceiling as a “catch and finish player,” he will be able to knock down a 15-18 foot jumper and keep defenses honest. Whether he gains strength or develops more consistency is the big concern for Wood, who could be a future star.

-Nice jump shooter; form is not great but is comfortable out to around 18 feet

-Immense potential as a help-side defender and shot-blocker (avg. 2.7/game last year)

-Ravenous rebounder (led Mountain West in defensive boards w/ 235); fights for offensive boards despite a slender frame

Christian Wood UNLV

-Though he is a good rebounder, lack of strength limits his level of impact

-Nonexistent post game

-Extremely inconsistent; known to disappear for long stretches at a time

D.O.G. Status: As we continue our Prospect Profiles, sleepers abound during the latter stages. Wood is no exception, as he can be a high-quality rebounder and face up scorer someday. All-Star upside.

NBA Comparison: Brandan Wright (better shooter)

-Jabari J.
