The first award has been announced of the 2014-2015 NBA Season. Lou Williams of the Toronto Raptors will take the honors of the “6 Man” and “6th Man of the Year,” becoming the first Raptor in the franchise history to do so.

Williams averaged a career high 15.5 points a game while helping bolster Toronto’s bench and push them to a division title this year.

According to ESPN, this is what Lou had to say on the season and his award:

“I didn’t think I was going to be the same player [after ACL tear],” Williams said. “I knew I wasn’t going to have the foot speed I once had, I knew I wasn’t going to be able to jump as high. But it taught me to be smart and I worked on different parts of my game. Being able to evolve and change my game to win this award is very gratifying.”

No doubt, Williams has worked hard to win the award but now has his sights on furthering the life of the Raptors’ playoff run. Toronto lost in overtime to the Washington Wizards on Saturday, dropping to 0-1 in their first round series.

In 32 minutes, Williams scored 10 points, dished 4 assists, and grabbed 3 rebounds. Although his numbers look decent, he took 16 shots and only made 4, while going 2-8 from 3-point land. His performance will need to be a lot more efficient to have an impact for game 2 tomorrow.

But for today, today is Lou day. Let the man enjoy his award.
