Trey Lyles (Freshman, Kentucky, @TreyMambaLyles)

Power Forward/6’10/250/Age: 19

Product of…Arsenal Tech (Indianapolis, IN)

Quick Stats

8.7 points/game, 5.2 rebounds/game, 1.1 assists/game

Trey Lyles may have seemed like the “forgotten” man in Kentucky’s front court but he is certainly a name to watch. Coach John Calipari deployed the versatile Lyles out of position at small forward for the majority of the year but it did not halt the freshman’s impact. A unique power player with a perimeter game, Trey can become a strong offensive player in the league next season.

As a future four man, Lyles needs to improve his three-point range to make a seamless transition into a devastating pick and pop threat. Though he is only an average athlete, his size, skill, and versatility make him a potential lottery selection.

-Good shooter with nice range near the three-point line; smart passer with a keen sense of making sharp reads when doubled

-Nice balance of a power & face up threat; comfortable sizing up opponents and scoring

-Great rebounder; knows how to use size to shield his man from getting into the lane

Trey Lyles prospect

-Not the most explosive athlete; could struggle to defend quick four men

-Lacks lateral quickness to compete at a high level defensively

-Has to control weight and improve conditioning

D.O.G. Status: Lyles could be an offensive star in a few years. If he is able to maintain top physical form, we could be mentioning him as one of the best young inside-out forwards in the future.

NBA Comparison: Carlos Boozer/Noah Vonleh

-Jabari J.
